Test Rod and Roping (TRR)

Duct Routes Proved and Ready

Our test rod and roping crews prove duct routes on Openreach and PIA networks — rodded, roped and ready for the cable pull, with blockages found before they find your programme. Heavy cable recovery handled by the same teams.

What our test rod and roping covers

A duct route that isn’t proved is a programme risk wearing a hard hat. Our TRR crews test, rod and rope duct sections so that when the cabling team arrives, the pull happens — instead of the day dissolving into blockage reports and re-planning. And because we recover heavy cable as well, congested duct becomes usable duct rather than a dead end on the design.

  • Test rod and roping on Openreach and PIA duct networks
  • Duct proving and blockage identification, reported with locations
  • Roping and pre-pull preparation ahead of fibre installations
  • Heavy cable recovery to free congested duct space
  • De-silting and minor clearance works
  • Results fed straight into PIA validation surveys and network build plans

Little mobilisation, honest reporting.

TRR crews deploy fast, and the report you get reflects the duct as found — because a flattering survey just moves the problem to pull day.

Recovery included.

Congested duct isn't a dead end when the same crew can clear it.

Feeds the bigger picture.

TRR, surveys, build and splicing under one contractor means findings become plans, not emails.

How a TRR job runs

1. Scope

Route sections, duct records and access points confirmed — we'll tell you upfront where records and reality are likely to disagree.

2. Prove

Sections tested and rodded; blockages located and logged with positions, not vague chainages.

3. Rope & report.

Clear sections roped ready for the pull; problem sections reported with practical fixes, not just bad news.

4. Recover where needed.

Redundant heavy cable out, duct space freed, waste documented.

Typical TRR jobs we take on

  • Pre-pull proving across PIA routes ahead of altnet builds
  • Heavy cable recovery to create capacity in congested duct
  • Blockage investigation where a pull has already failed
  • TRR packages within larger network build programmes
  • Duct proving for PIA validation ahead of NOI submissions

FAQs

Yes — TRR on both estates is core work, with the relevant accreditations evidenced before we start.

You get its location and our honest read on the fix — clearance, excavation or re-route — priced if you want us to handle it.

Often, yes — proving the duct early protects the critical path and stops the design committing to routes that won’t take a cable.
